Teachers Community

With Jean Hall AND Anna Ashby
AT MISSION, London E1 6PX.

These weekend immersions are for yoga teachers of all backgrounds and styles. The sessions are offered as a supportive space in which we may come together and connect with one another, expand personal practice, discuss challenges, and contemplate what we value most in the teachings of yoga and movement and explore how we can share with others. Jean and Anna will facilitate these sessions with dialogue and exchange to help enhance our deepening of felt understanding and knowledge.

Teachers’ Practice (Fridays 3:00 - 6:00pm)

A three hour yoga session exploring the theme of the weekend through breath, movement and stillness practices that incorporate teachings from the tradition, as well as more contemporary approaches. The Teachers’ Practice will weave together aspects of philosophy, physiology and psychology - time dedicated to experiencing deeply felt wisdom of breath, body and mind.
After the practice we will come together to discuss and share our thoughts, findings and reflections that centre around a particular topic of interest relevant to the group.

Teachers’ Saṅgha AND Development (Saturdays 12:00 - 4:30pm)

Drawing upon the theme for the weekend, the Teachers’ Development offers time to explore essential sensory perceptions and actions (jñānendriya and karmendriya) that sustain and nourish teaching. This session includes open enquiry, somatic and experiential movement practices, group work and dialogue. These approaches deepen and widen understanding and capacity to teach with authenticity while helping others access their own power and wisdom.

WEEKEND IMMERSION THEMES ARE:

  • Art of Listening (April 19-20)

This session spotlights śrotra, the jñānendriya that focuses the cognitive sense organ of hearing - taking in knowledge through what is heard. The line of enquiry for this session will ask questions such as, “What is being heard? Who is hearing? Where in the body is listening? How does this impact our ability to teach well?”

  • Art of Seeing (July 5-6)

This session spotlights cakṣus, the jñānendriya that focuses the cognitive sense organ of sight, taking in knowledge through what is seen. The line of enquiry for this session will ask questions such as, “What is being seen? How do we let ourselves be seen and perceived? How do we see and perceive our self in the role of educator/practitioner? Who is seeing? Where in the body sees/has insight? How does this impact our ability to teach well?”

  • Art of Speech (Sept 6-7)

This session spotlights vāk, the karmendriya that involves the organ of action of speech. The line of enquiry for this session will ask questions such as, “What is the underlying impulse for words? What is being communicated and why? Where in the body is the impulse for speech arising? How can the power of exchange be nurtured in a teaching environment?”

  • Art of Touch (Dec 13-14)

This session spotlights tvak, the jñānendriya that involves the cognitive sense organ of touch - taking in knowledge through what is felt. The line of enquiry for this session will ask questions such as, “What is being touched, and from where does touch arise? Who is touching whom? Where in the body feels? How does this awareness impact our teaching?
